About The Position

The J. Lorber Co-Op Branch Operations Associate Program is a structured, hands-on learning experience designed for students interested in wholesale distribution, supply chain, operations, sales, or business leadership. As a fourth-generation, family-owned wholesale distributor serving the plumbing, hydronic, HVAC, and industrial markets for over 105 years, J. Lorber Company provides students exposure to the operational, financial, and customer service components of the supply chain. This program is designed to develop foundational skills in: Inventory management Warehouse operations ERP and warehouse management systems Customer service processes Distribution logistics Operational efficiency and continuous improvement Participants gain real-world experience while contributing meaningfully to branch performance, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The Co-Op Store Associate supports daily branch operations while participating in a structured development program. Under the guidance of the Store Manager and Operations leadership, the student will assist with inventory handling, order fulfillment, warehouse processes, and customer support functions. The role provides exposure to both operational execution and the business drivers behind branch performance. This is a developmental role and not a supervisory position

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a high school co-op, technical school, or college program
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
  • Basic computer proficiency required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move product using proper equipment
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks under supervision
  • Ability to bend, reach, and work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in supply chain, business, engineering, operations, or related field preferred
  • ERP or warehouse system experience is a plus but not required
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving, stocking, picking, packing, and shipping of inventory
  • Utilize warehouse management tools (e.g., Zebra RF scanners, WMS systems) to ensure accuracy
  • Inspect incoming product for damage and assist with return processing per vendor SOPs
  • Support cycle counts, physical inventories, and audit preparation
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized warehouse and counter areas
  • Support order preparation for customer pickup and delivery
  • Assist customers with product loading as needed
  • Observe and learn inside sales and counter processes
  • Support accurate order entry and ERP look-ups under supervision
  • Communicate professionally with team members and customers
  • Assist in preparation of customer delivery manifests
  • Participate in vehicle inspection awareness training (Samsara or equivalent system)
  • Ride along on deliveries when appropriate (if authorized) to understand last-mile logistics
  • Participate in process improvement discussions
  • Provide feedback to management on workflow efficiencies
  • Complete assigned learning modules and company training
