About The Position

The CNA, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, performs routine personal care duties for patients. Maintains a safe environment and reports any problems. Supports the Winchester Rehabilitation Center’s and Winchester Medical Center’s mission and vision. Once experienced, may act as a preceptor in the orientation of new CNA's. Responsibilities and Duties Under the direction of an RN/LPN, provides care and treatment appropriate to the age of patients served as detailed and determined through the unit specific Scope of Care, Competency/Skills Checklists, Equipment Skills Matrix and Inservice Training. Receives report and/or makes rounds on each assigned patient with the registered nurse/licensed personnel. Reports observations to the team leaders, i.e., patient complaints, patient behavior or appearance, family complaints. Reports completeness of assigned tasks to the registered nurse at end of shift and, as necessary, otherwise. Provides input into the nursing plan of care. Performs and completes assigned tasks accurately. Assists licensed personnel in the delivery of patient care. Completes unit environmental tasks as assigned. Verbalizes and carries out Disaster and Fire Regulations and procedures. Carries out Universal Precautions. Reports unsafe equipment or practice immediately to appropriate personnel. Participates in patient care conferences, staff meetings and nursing committees. Follows documented policy and procedure in the delivery of patient care. Assists other unit members without being asked when own work is complete. Performs task appropriate for the skill level and educational preparation. Attends inservice class, as assigned. No excessive time taken for breaks and meals. Reports on the unit and off duty at established shift times. Reports to charge nurse/designee when leaving the unit and upon re-entering unit. Uses leave request system appropriately.

Requirements

  • Current or rising high school seniors
  • Registry of the Board of Nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide required.
  • Must be listed on the relevant Registry of the Board of Nursing as a Certified Nurse Aide in Virginia and/or West Virginia based on work location(s) within Valley Health.
  • BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved is required.
  • New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
  • Must understand basic principles of human growth and development.
  • Must be competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served.
  • Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
  • Will be required to obtain Valley Health provided annual flu vaccination if employed in Long-Term Care clinical areas.
