About The Position

The CNC Tool Room Technologist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating a 5-axis CNC milling machine and other CNC equipment used in the tool room. This role applies advanced knowledge of tool room CNC machinery, tooling, and CAM software (including Mastercam) to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces to precise specifications. The technologist will also maintain tooling inventory and support continuous improvement initiatives in CNC operations. Pay Range: $29.40-$44.10

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3–5 years of experience in tool room or CNC programming preferred
  • Proficient in Mastercam and other CAM software
  • Knowledge of die theory, machining processes, and basic metallurgy
  • Proficient in blueprint reading, shop math, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and maintaining close tolerances
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and machine tool capabilities
  • Analytical and mechanical aptitude
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Team-oriented work ethic
  • Ability to program and operate all CNC mills, including 5-axis
  • Willingness to become proficient across all CNC areas in the Tool Room
  • Good vision and hearing
  • Manual dexterity
  • Ability to lift 20–50 pounds occasionally and 2–25 pounds frequently

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise NC programs using Mastercam and other CAM software.
  • Program and operate all CNC mills, including 5-axis machines, and other CNC equipment as needed (lathes, wire EDM).
  • Manually enter coordinates and machine instructions when necessary.
  • Integrate new tooling and fixturing to optimize machining efficiency.
  • Set up and operate CNC equipment to perform drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and cutting.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, attachments, and materials.
  • Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to maintain part accuracy.
  • Perform machine maintenance and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Interpret technical plans and blueprints to determine setup procedures and control settings.
  • Check material specs prior to machining, mount and align workpieces, and ensure conformity to specifications using precision measuring tools.
  • Calculate machining parameters such as spindle speeds, feed rates, and depth of cut.
  • Maintain accurate records of tooling, programs, and setup parameters.
  • Communicate with team members and leadership to resolve issues and suggest improvements.
  • Perform other customer- or product-driven duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
