About The Position

The position involves setting up, adjusting, and operating a variety of machine tools to perform machining operations on work that requires close tolerance and finish requirements. The machines used include CNC machining centers, milling machines, drill presses, metal cutting band saws, and machine lathes. The role requires working from drawings and specifications in various measurement systems, including English, metric, fractional, and decimal dimensions, while holding exacting tolerances. Additionally, the position entails sharpening and maintaining press tooling, setting up dies with the correct punch to die clearance, and determining quality using calipers, micrometers, and scales. The individual will follow instructions from the production scheduler and/or shift supervisor to ensure tooling is ready for production runs and will be responsible for writing purchase orders for necessary tools and equipment.

Requirements

• Experience on CNC machining centers.
• Familiarity with personal measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, machinist squares, and scales.
• Ability to work from technical drawings and specifications.

• Experience operating as a lead person in machining operations.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of machine tools for machining operations.
• Work from drawings and specifications in English, metric, fractional, and decimal dimensions.
• Hold exacting tolerances during machining processes.
• Sharpen and maintain press tooling.
• Setup dies with correct punch to die clearance and stripper to die clearance.
• Determine and maintain quality using calipers, micrometers, and scales.
• Follow instructions from the production scheduler and/or shift supervisor.
• Write purchase orders for punches, drills, tooling, etc.
• Provide technical support on tool and press setups, shear setups, and slitter setups.
• Maintain tool room machining and grinding equipment.
• Keep work areas clean and organized.
