About The Position

The CNC Technician positions focus on manufacturing precision optics and optical components. The Optical Polishing role involves polishing and finishing optical components, while the Optical Manufacturing (Cutting) role focuses on cutting and machining these components. Both positions require attention to detail, strong geometry and trigonometry skills, and the ability to work with delicate optical components. The Optical Polishing position offers both 1st and 2nd shifts, while the Optical Manufacturing (Cutting) position is limited to the 1st shift only. Each role has specific responsibilities and desired skills that cater to their respective technical focuses.

Requirements

  • CNC Technician experience in Optical Polishing or Optical Manufacturing (Cutting).
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Strong geometry and trigonometry skills.
  • Ability to work any shift, including compressed schedules.
  • Multi-tasking skills to run multiple machines in a cell.
  • Dexterity to handle delicate optical components.

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year technical degree preferred.
  • Experience with surface quality standards and inspection.
  • Machine maintenance experience (Optical Polishing only).
  • Optical metrology experience (Optical Polishing only).
  • Basic knowledge of cutting tools, speeds, and feeds (Optical Manufacturing Cutting only).
  • Experience measuring ultra-precision components (Optical Manufacturing Cutting only).
  • Experience setting up and cutting freeform optical components (Optical Manufacturing Cutting only).
  • CNC G-Code programming experience (Optical Manufacturing Cutting only).
  • Experience with Calypso or DIFFSYS programming (Optical Manufacturing Cutting only).

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture precision optics and optical components.
  • Read and interpret optical component drawings/specs including GD&T.
  • Interpret interferograms, CMM reports, and other metrology data.
  • Independently set up and operate polishing equipment, lathes, flycutters, and other manual/CNC machines.
  • Perform bi-weekly maintenance on polishing machines (Optical Polishing only).
  • Use advanced testing equipment such as interferometers and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineering and technicians.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
