Rivian is hiring for a CNC Programmer to join our Tool & Die team in Normal, IL. As a CNC Programmer, you will have the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art equipment in one of the fastest growing industries in the country and make a true impact on growing the Electric Vehicle Industry. This role will report to our Group Leader, Machining.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years in CNC Machining
  • Minimum 4 years in CNC Programming
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Catia, MasterCam, Visi, Power Mill)
  • Proficient in G-code/M-code and CAM software (MasterCAM, Power Mill, Work NC)
  • Accurately read technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models, with a thorough understanding of GD&T
  • Extensive experience operating and maintaining CNC machines, including adjustments and troubleshooting
  • Basic understanding of design principles and construction to identify potential flaws
  • Highly skilled in using a wide range of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, indicator, depth mics, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to diagnose and implement solutions for complex machining issues
  • Thorough understanding of die-making materials (steels, carbides, alloys) and heat treatment processes

Responsibilities

  • Develop/modify CNC programs (G-code, M-code) for accurate and efficient die component production, optimizing tool paths, feed rates, and spindle speeds.
  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines to machine intricate die components with exacting tolerances; conduct prove-outs and first article inspections.
  • Knowledge of appropriate cutting tools for high-quality die and mold machining, understand die assembly, and manage CNC tool libraries.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMMs) to verify part dimensions against specifications.
  • Identify and resolve machining issues (tool wear, material behavior, equipment malfunctions) to minimize downtime.
  • Work with design and tooling engineers to refine designs, optimize processes, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain detailed records of machine setups, operational parameters, and program adjustments for traceability and process improvement.
