About The Position

The CNC Programmer I is responsible for programming computer numeric controlled machine tools. They will be responsible for not only creating new G&M codes for equipment to read, but also maintaining and correcting existing programs resident to the company server with support from others. Level I programmers will generate programs to the prints, models, or sketches with consultation from higher level programmers and others when required. They must understand some standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school graduate.
  • 1 to 3 years of practical CNC programming experience or 5 plus years of machining experience
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in mathematics.
  • Functional knowledge of G&M code.
  • Strong commitment to detailed and error-free performance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility with work schedule, including some weekends, holidays, and different shifts as required; ability to work OT (more than 40 hours) in any given week as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using AutoCAD, MASTERCAM, and Feature CAM is a plus.
  • Prior CNC programming experience in milling environments is a plus.
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the capabilities of the CNC machines.
  • Program various CNC machines utilizing MASTERCAM software approved by TAIT from solid models, drawings, and any other format provided by other departments, such as design.
  • Ability to perform machining calculations including, but not limited to, speeds and feeds in a diverse range of tooling and raw materials.
  • Create Multi operation programs efficiently, when, and where applicable, per production demands.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to meet quality standards
  • Develop manufacturing documentation and distribute to the operators, as well as others, in an organized fashion.
  • Assist in the Identification, location, and considerations for required tooling for production.
  • Ability to find resolution for problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain visual perception of finished product and recognize unacceptable burrs, an out of tolerance finish, or any other machining defects.
  • Complete assignments and production sequences to meet production goals & schedules as well as input from the machine shop management team.
  • Conducts quality control by inspection of materials, products, and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions proactively in conjunction with CNC Operators.
  • Proactively run machinery when needed to meet production goals.
  • Assist with periodic machine maintenance practices when required.
  • Assist in Methods / tooling development for manufacturing.
  • Work with level 2 programmers on process methodologies and Cam programming standards.
  • Keep a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including tools and equipment.
  • Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor.
  • Fix material issues as they come up through shift.
  • Ensure TAIT's 5 standards of care are coordinated into daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost.
  • Share skills and knowledge with others to help with department development. Assist with training others.
  • Take ownership for decisions, actions, performance, and behavior.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required.
  • Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company.
