Reporting to the Initial department Production Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing the programming, technical support and the day-to-day guidance to the plant's CNC machines.
As an integrated member of the production team, ensure all work in the area is being performed in a safe manner and in support of the Plant and Company safety rules, policies, standards and expectations.
Be the owner of creating/developing the programming for the CNC machines.
High attention to detail, accuracy and problem solving skills.
Oversee the operation of the machine ensuring safe work practices as well as keeping the CNC work area a safe work environment for all that work or enter the area. (including, but not limited to ensuring that all workers in the area understand the safety features of the equipment (safety photo eyes, E-stops, etc.), that the area is in a clean/organized state to prevent slip/trips and any other safety risks, bring to the attention of management any safety concerns that need to be addressed outside of your control). Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Ensure the uploading of any and all programmed jobs, setting up to run the job (both in the CNC program and tooling selection), and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping production records; labeling manufactured products for shipment/secondary work; maintaining equipment and supplies.
Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Capable of using calipers and other precision measuring devices.
Inspect and validate that the base Marshfield raw material meets quality specs to be machined into the purchase order's finished product. (Have a solid understanding and execute work against product quality specifications)
Programs the CNC by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
Sets-up the CNC for operations by ensuring that the tool carriage/head is in home position and understanding the proper reference points on the table for the upcoming job, proper tools selected, stock pushers and all other machine devices are in proper safe position and ready to execute machining tasks.
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to quality standards.
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications if needed and is willing to participate in training on site or offsite with proper vendor(s) if needed to optimize full functionality of the process or equipment.
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments; better the overall process flow or efficiency.
When the CNC is not in use, the CNC Programmer will assist with other job tasks as defined by his manager or other members of the plant management team.
Perform any other function the supervisor deems necessary.
Knowledge of and understanding of the forming process for the Marshfield products.
Ability to interact well with others in the common pursuit of working safely while producing material that meets all quality attributes and standards.
Experience with AutoCAD, Alphacam, Xylog or equivalent preferred.
