About the role Job Summary The Lead Machine Operator is responsible for overseeing the operation of machinery and equipment on the production floor, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to safety and quality standards. This role provides guidance to other machine operators and supports troubleshooting and maintenance activities. This job profile is intended for professional-level staff that works autonomously and may coordinate the activities of other professional-level staff, especially in non-routine situations. This job and its associated grade are specifically aligned with roles that have the following scope of responsibility: Small, Medium, Large, Division / Extra Large organization. Summary: This position requires the machinist to program G and M code at the machine control or from a desktop pc. Programming will be performed long hand and from CAD/CAM software. This position will be an 80/20 split as machine operator and programmer. When programming duties are not required the machinist will rotate with Master Machinists in a production role. This will require experience in setting up and operation of manual mills and lathes as well as cnc mills and lathes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires advanced vocational training (or equivalent experience) and several years of relevant work experience to carry out the role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of machinery and production processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance.
  • Leadership skills and experience training others.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Familiarity with production documentation and reporting tools.
  • CAD / CAM experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is required.

  • All employees have "the right and duty to intervene" in the event a safety concern becomes evident. In addition, acceptance of an intervention should be accepted in a positive manner as it could have prevented an accident.

  • You must be able to use calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs (excess of 50 lbs, use of slings, hoist or cranes required)
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (up to 12hrs)

Nice To Haves

  • CNC Programming experience required
  • High-School Diploma or GED required, Associate degree preferred
  • Manual machining experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer and mobile operating systems including Android, Apple, and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor production machinery to ensure efficient output.
  • Lead and train junior machine operators on procedures and safety protocols.
  • Perform routine maintenance and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and production targets.
  • Maintain accurate production logs and documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ability to program all necessary machine tools required to produce parts to print specifications such as CNC lathes and horizontal machining centers.
  • Set up and operate manual machines such as mills, lathes, and the radial drill.
  • Ability to build tooling and fixtures for machine tools.
  • Perform quality checks per work instruction.
  • Maintain production flow to meet on-time delivery.
  • Perform corrective action and move from machining to balancing as necessary.
  • Follows quality procedures according to ISO 9001.
  • Cleaning and organizing of work areas (5S Standards)
  • Perform preventive maintenance outlined by PM sheets from the Maintenance department
  • Work Overtime when assigned by the department Supervisor
  • Assists other team members as directed, including training, and assisting less experienced coworkers
  • Performs other duties as assigned
