About the position

The CNC Programmer at Harsco is responsible for writing and optimizing machine code for various machining processes, including milling, turning, and cutting. This role requires a strong understanding of machine shop practices and the ability to modify process parameters to ensure high-quality outputs. The programmer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop manufacturing solutions that enhance productivity and reduce costs, while also ensuring adherence to lean manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

  • Write and optimize machine code for vertical and horizontal milling, large part turning, and plasma/oxy-fuel cutting.
  • Possess knowledge of standard machine shop and sheet metal fabrication practices.
  • Modify process parameters for optimal cut quality in plasma and laser cutting processes.
  • Interpret material standards for mechanical and chemical composition to select appropriate work and tool materials.
  • Calculate Surface Feet per Minute for various machining operations including turning, milling, drilling, and broaching.
  • Understand helical path composition including helix radius and ramp angle.
  • Specify machine tool, work support, and work holding requirements for machining applications.
  • Identify tool wear and manage tool life cycle calendar.
  • Create and compile documents to aid in machine setup.
  • Develop product/process designs to reduce manufacturing costs and ensure quality.
  • Drive manufacturing development and continuous improvement using lean principles.
  • Collaborate with product designers, materials management, and operations to implement manufacturing solutions.

Requirements

  • AA in Machine Tool or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience writing CNC programs in machining and sheet metal fabrication environments.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong MasterCam skills and experience with jig and fixture design.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CAD Solid Edge and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with LN ERP system and Team Center Manufacturing.
  • Experience in a machining manufacturing environment for 2-5 years.
