PRIMARY SUMMARY: Under general supervision the CNC Operator sets up and operates machines with computer controls that use single or multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential requirements represents the knowledge, skill, and/or ability. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Measures dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures. Removes and replaces dull cutting tools. Mounts, installs, aligns and secures tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Listens to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems. Adjusts machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction. Stops machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences. Lifts work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes. Modifies cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs. Calculates machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts. Inserts control instructions into machine control units to start operation. Assists other operators with machine operation, techniques and quality productivity as required. Utilizes calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools to perform inspection to ensure conformance, dimension, and tolerance levels are within specifications. Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) and verifies part samples to blueprint specification. Makes adjustments to the process as required. Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to repair the die. Follow all 5S department procedures. Attend all required job related training (internal and external). Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures. Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times. Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately. Seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results. Suggest waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
