About The Position

This job description is a general guide for Operator positions. In general, this position sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and other operating machines to fabricate parts by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • High School/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum six months on-the-job experience required for advancement into Machinist I position.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures and marks reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent work to be performed.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as grinders and saws.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, and/or enters commands.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Confers with production personnel or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Sets the highest ethical standards for self and others.
  • Other duties as assigned
