About The Position

The position involves working on CNC machines during the shift from 2:48 PM to 11:18 PM, with a 15% shift premium. The role requires precision in machining metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, while adhering to close tolerances of .0002 inches. Responsibilities include inspecting parts during production, monitoring machine fluid levels, and reading process sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine machining requirements. The operator will edit pre-written programs with supervision, mount work pieces, select and install tooling, and ensure machine performance through various adjustments. The role also involves setting up and operating CNC machines with minimal supervision, utilizing inspection instruments, and performing basic equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED required
  • 1 year of CNC Mills experience
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to blueprints
  • Capable of understanding and following routing steps
  • Ability to inspect work and meet quality requirements
  • Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using steady rest
  • Able to perform machine set up (install proper chuck jaws and tooling)
  • Basic understanding of equipment and processes in the area of responsibility
  • Ability to read precision measuring equipment
  • Basic programming knowledge or experience
  • Set-up capabilities, tooling knowledge, understanding of feeds and speed and gearing technology
  • Own basic hand tools at minimum

Responsibilities

  • Work to close tolerances (ie. .0002")
  • Machine metals including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
  • Inspect parts during production using precision measuring instruments
  • Monitor and maintain machine fluid levels
  • Read process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done
  • Edit pre-written programs with supervision when necessary
  • Edit program for process improvements and troubleshooting
  • Mount work pieces in chuck, to faceplate, or to fixtures
  • Select and install preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or cutters
  • Observe numerical control displays on control panel and compare with data on process sheet
  • Turn dials and switches to override program and correct machine performance
  • Inspect first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications
  • Study job packets and organize materials for next order during cycles
  • Pre-set tools before positioning them in mill
  • Set up and operate another machine tool during machining cycles
  • Utilize all types of inspection instruments to check work per print without supervision
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance
  • Crosstrain on other plant machinery as required
