About The Position

The Mid-Level CNC Turning Center Machinist is responsible for independently setting up, operating, and adjusting CNC turning machines to produce components that meet engineering specifications. This machinist applies technical knowledge and machining skills to ensure part accuracy, quality, and efficiency, while contributing to continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC turning centers or lathes in a production or job shop environment.
  • Strong understanding of G-code and ability to make minor program edits.
  • Proficiency in precision measurement and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to set up CNC machines independently and troubleshoot basic issues.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high standards for quality.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours or shifts as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to inspect parts.

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up CNC turning centers, including installing and adjusting tooling, setting tool and work offsets, and loading programs.
  • Operate CNC lathes/turning centers to produce parts with minimal supervision.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
  • Edit and adjust G-code programs at the machine as needed for part quality and efficiency.
  • Provide feedback on programs to support process improvement.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Ensure parts meet dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Accurately document inspection results and production data.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on machines, tools, and fixtures.
  • Follow and promote safe machining practices and company safety policies.
  • Suggest tooling, fixturing, and process improvements to reduce cycle times and enhance part quality.
  • Assist in training and mentoring entry-level machinists or operators when needed.
