We are Dover Precision Components, #LifeAtDPC The 1st Shift CNC Machinist performs highly routine/repetitive work on standardized parts. This role operates one or more CNC machine and will adjust and operate several machine tools on standardized work where setup detail and operating procedures are prescribed. This role will use fixtures, machine stops, and indexing devices are utilized to control tolerances and work will be subject to process and final inspection check.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some trade school or on-the-job training is required to become proficient in most phases of the job.
  • Technical training in shop math and blueprint reading is necessary to learn the job.
  • 1 – 5 years of experience as a manual or CNC machinist
  • Walks, stands, reaches, and bends frequently.
  • Periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required.
  • Possesses good hand/eye coordination.
  • Normal operations require eye protection, steel toed footwear, and occasionally hand protection.
  • Exposure to normal machine shop environment with periodic noise.
  • Limited disagreeable factors present.

Responsibilities

  • Works from drawings, sketches and specifications in completing various machining operations.
  • Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
  • Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.
  • Completes and maintains all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms, etc. for each job.
  • Makes jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as qualified and assigned.
  • Acquires raw material, supplies, tools, etc. when necessary.
  • Performs first piece inspections on basic product for other machinists, as qualified and assigned.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance of machines according to PM schedule.
  • Troubleshoots drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material, etc. and making competent decisions pertaining to job at hand.
  • Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T) as called out on print.
  • Ensures proper machine set up and accurate interpretation of prints and specifications to prevent damage to material.
  • Detects errors with frequent tolerance/quality checks.
