CNC Machinist SUMMARY: quality and just in time production flow. Responsible for set-up of equipment, inventory control, set-up and adjustment of production gauging, inspection of parts, as needed for product quality, use of process control methods, and perform routine visual assessment of preventive maintenance requirements on tools and equipment. Read and interpret all process documents and advise supervisor or engineering of clarifications and/or corrections that need to be made, follow detailed procedures and maintain cell records (ie. SPC etc.). Assists in training team members in all operations and communicates production issues to supervisor and/or other team members. Move and store material in the work area in an orderly fashion. Use hand-operated material handling equipment as needed. Use computer systems to perform production transactions and obtain documentation needed for the completion of assigned operations of the manufacturing cell. Interface with product development, engineering, and others as needed to deliver product meeting customer requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include but not limited to: Receives drawings, process prints, set-up sheets, and other written or verbal instructions. Sets up CNC machines or equipment in diversified operations such as machining, milling, turning, grinding, riveting as necessary to produce a completed product. Move or direct the movement of materials in the cell, as needed to produce a constant product flow. Requires the ability to interpret a variety of process prints and competently use the measuring devices provided as production gauging. Requires thorough knowledge of machine controls and operation. Need not be able to program, but knowledge of offset functions is necessary. Will perform production operations when not involved in other responsibilities. May perform machine operating and assembly as required. Adheres to all safety rules and report questionable conditions to department supervisor Apply, follow, and recommend Lean practices. QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of CNC machines, CNC lathes & millers, material handling, other machines Ability to read micrometers, bore gages, other complex gauging Ability to make minor program edits Ability to maintain tooling or modify tooling as required Ability to troubleshoot tooling/programming problems on CNC equipment Demonstrates proficiency in Blueprint reading Demonstrates proficiency in Dimensioning, including using GD&T symbols Demonstrates proficiency in Lean Tools & Principles Demonstrates proficiency in Lean Tools & Principles Demonstrates proficiency in CNC Machine Controls Demonstrates proficiency in performing machine offsets Demonstrates proficiency in performing machine setups Demonstrates proficiency in tooling & tool selection Demonstrates proficiency in making minor program adjustments Demonstrates ability to understand basic programming Demonstrates proficiency in Lathe, Mill, and Saw operation, offsets, and setups Ability to train others in CNC Machine operation EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE CREDENTIALS: High School education or equivalent required 2 year technical school preferred Minimum 2 year machining experience Must be able to perform machine shop mathematics, setups, and machining procedures PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
