About The Position

The position involves performing a variety of machine operations utilizing a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mill or Lathe to manufacture parts according to drawing specifications. The role requires interpreting setup sheets, drawings, and work orders to determine the necessary work and dimensions of both in-process and finished parts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three years previous machinist experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to apply basic shop math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work with close tolerances.
  • Ability to operate the equipment used in the department, including measuring devices and CNC machines.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Exhibits dependability, including following instructions and responding to supervisor's direction.
  • Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets setup sheets, drawings, and work orders to determine work to be done and dimensions of in-process and finished parts.
  • Operates CNC machine to perform a variety of milling, drilling, boring, or related operations to close tolerances.
  • Selects and installs appropriate cutting tools in machine spindle or magazine.
  • Loads programs in machine control or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Changes cutting tools and location of part during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Performs a variety of inspection and gauging operations to ensure conformity to drawing tolerances and quality standards.
  • Notifies supervisor or lead of discrepancies.
  • Utilizes override control to correct conditions that are out of tolerance or operating unusually.
  • Cleans machine, tooling, and parts; empties chip container.
  • Performs basic machine maintenance.
