Tasked with creating and revising programs for CNC machinery. They must understand and interpret complex technical drawings and translate them into executable CNC programs. The role demands a high level of precision and attention to detail to ensure that machine outputs meet exact specifications and quality standards.

  • Read, interpret, and program CNC machines with data from technical drawings or specifications.
  • Create or modify 5-axis CNC programs for production runs including entering instructions, setting tool registers, and calculating requirements.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Check to ensure that work pieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
  • Input initial part dimensions into machine control panels.
  • Confer with supervisors or programmers to resolve machine malfunctions or production errors or to obtain approval to continue production.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel displays and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Clean machines, tooling, or parts using solvents or solutions and rags.
  • Also responsible for cleaning the shop and ensuring safe housekeeping on an ongoing basis.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerance using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
  • Set, monitor, and modify tolerance levels and cutting speeds to produce the component or part to specification.
  • Inspect produced components or parts to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Must be able to use tools, such as lathes, mills, cutters, and grinders as needed to perform required requested work.

  • 8+ years Desired Work Experience

  • Requires extensive knowledge of hand tools, drill press, grinders, and other machine shop equipment
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • The position requires regular and predictable attendance.
  • Requires vision (near, peripheral, depth), sense of touch, and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – hearing protection, safety glasses, and hand protection.
  • Constantly stands, lifts/carries 10 pounds or less, and pushes/pulls 12 pounds or less.
  • Frequently reaches outward, lifts/carries up to 50 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally walks, sits, reaches above shoulder, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries up to and over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Siemens NX software and programming highly desired.
  • CAD skills or experience with similar software programs preferred.
  • Certificate in Machining or a related discipline preferred.
