This position involves setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Key responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, selecting and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, and raw materials. The machinist will calculate and set controls for manual operations, retrieve and download machine control programs for CNC operations, and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. The role also requires unloading and deburring finished parts, verifying conformance to specifications using manual methods or CMM/DCC-CMM, performing daily housekeeping and maintenance, and conferring with engineers, programmers, inspectors, or maintenance personnel to resolve issues.
