About The Position

HWX Enterprises is seeking experienced CNC Machinists (Mill) for multiple direct-hire opportunities across Southeast Michigan. This is a high-mix, low-volume machining environment — not production machining. Work consists of custom, one-off and short-run parts including weldments, custom frames, and complex aerospace components. This role is Mill work only (no lathe work) and includes 3-axis, 5-axis, and 3+2 machining. Candidates must be able to independently set up and program CNC milling machines. The standard work week averages 56 hours , and there is no shortage of work. Compensation is dependent on experience with strong advancement potential.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC shop experience
  • Minimum 2 years of technical training (formal or equivalent experience)
  • Proven ability to independently set up and program CNC milling machines
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience with 3-axis, 5-axis, and 3+2 machining
  • Competent with basic Microsoft Windows applications (Excel, Word)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, scales, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of machining strategies and tool paths
  • Ability to verify setup accuracy before machining
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Must pass a background check
  • Required due to federal aerospace contract compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Crane operation certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Independently set up and program CNC milling machines for custom and short-run parts
  • Perform complex and unique machine setups
  • Program, edit, and optimize CNC programs and tool paths (Mastercam preferred)
  • Set up and operate machines for cutting, drilling, and grinding various materials
  • Control machine speed, feed rates, and path of cut to ensure precision and efficiency
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications
  • Plan machining operations by reviewing work orders, materials, dimensions, reference planes, and tolerances
  • Confirm part setup and program accuracy prior to machining
  • Inspect completed parts to verify dimensional accuracy and quality
  • Maintain quality and safety standards in accordance with QA procedures
  • Detect malfunctions and report issues to management
  • Perform preventive maintenance per manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Ensure continuity between shifts through clear communication
