CNC Machinist (Lathe / Mill)
About The Position
A growing group of precision manufacturing companies in the Chicagoland area is seeking experienced CNC Machinists to support increased production demand and expansion efforts. These opportunities are within stable, well-established organizations ranging from family-owned machine shops to rapidly scaling manufacturers supporting industries such as aerospace, medical, defense, and data center infrastructure. These are hands-on roles in high-mix, low-volume environments , offering variety in daily work, exposure to complex parts, and the ability to contribute to process improvements and operational growth.
Requirements
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience (lathe, mill, or both)
- Strong setup experience including tooling, offsets, and prove-outs
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
- Experience with precision measurement tools
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Nice To Haves
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume or job shop environments
- Familiarity with Fanuc, Mazak, or similar CNC controls
- Exposure to G-code editing or basic programming
- Experience with Mazatrol or CAM systems
- Background in process improvement or production optimization
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes and/or mills to produce precision-machined parts
- Install tooling, set offsets, and perform first-piece inspections
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
- Make program edits and offset adjustments to maintain tight tolerances
- Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, finishes, or dimensions
- Maintain documentation and ensure quality standards are met
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, safe workspace
