About The Position

The CNC Machinist III is a senior-level machinist responsible for independently setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC machines using existing programs to produce precision components. This role focuses on advanced setups, process optimization, quality control, and technical leadership, without responsibility for CNC programming or CAM development.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of CNC Machining experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining principles, including G-code programming, toolpath generation, and machining parameters optimization.
  • Knowledge of machining processes and materials, including metal cutting, tooling choice, and workpiece fixturing.
  • Experience machining a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to machining and tooling.
  • Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Adhere to essential functions of position such as attendance and timeliness.
  • Ability to accept and follow directions.
  • Knowledge of and experience with hand tools

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is highly desirable.
  • General computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • General mechanical ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, and could program CNC mills, Wire EDM's, and CNC lathes within specified tolerances following work instructions and in accordance with machine programs and engineering drawings.
  • Load and verify CNC programs; adjust tool offsets, wear offsets, and work coordinates as required.
  • Perform difficult CNC Machinist work including progressive machining of a variety of parts and different metals where very close tolerances must be maintained.
  • Select, install, and verify tooling, fixtures, and work holding per setup documentation.
  • Machine parts to blueprint specifications and tolerance requirements.
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspections using precision measuring tools.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to tooling, fixturing, materials, or machine operation.
  • Monitor tool life and make adjustments to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Support and mentor junior machinists as a technical resource.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Produce machined parts by operating, setting up computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Propose new production set ups and change offsets/tooling in machines as part of the new setup.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering with redesigning fixtures to increase quality standards and productivity, change dull tooling, and/or make minor offsets and adjustments as needed for tooling wear.
  • Propose adjusted speeds and feeds for different machining requirements.
  • Perform routine maintenance as per daily machine checklist and adhere to PM schedule.
  • Provide training and technical support to CNC machinists and operators on program setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and skill development within the machining team, promoting knowledge sharing and cross-training to enhance capabilities and versatility.
