About The Position

CNC Machinist III is a senior level position to perform more complex lathe and mill tasks, demonstrating the ability to lead and train machinists. They will continue to learn all aspects of CNC operations, the trade and, as a part of the Production Team, fill in as needed in other areas in support of manufacturing. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position. Manufacture parts within a cell with multiple machines to exacting blueprint dimensions and ensure 100%-part quality. Perform simple and complex set-ups on both manual and CNC turning / milling machining centers. Edit CNC programs as necessary to improve the machining process and extend tool life while meeting production rates. Develop simple CNC programs using the machine controls. TECHNICAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Serves as a machining Subject Matter Expert (SME) within areas of demonstrated competent authority in relation to Quality and Cost. Performs new and/or complex set-ups and operates equipment to produce high quality parts (100% good pieces) within prescribed routed time to meet production demands. If standard production rates cannot be met, the operator must notify his supervisor. Debugs CNC programs and fully documents completed setups according to standard procedures. Knowledgeable in all aspects of GD&T and its application relative to part manufacture and inspection. Read and understand drawings to effectively manufacture parts to close tolerances. Maintains equipment via established preventative maintenance schedules. Follows all prescribed quality procedures and inspection plans. Occasionally operates CMM to make in-process checks utilizing pre-established CMM programs and set-ups. Performs 1st piece inspections and monitors own work to meet process requirements including fully documenting inspections reports developed by the Quality department. Verifies that the inspection equipment being utilized is in calibration and performs a simple daily check against a known master to ensure the accuracy of the gage to be used. Drive safe operations by identifying safety risks and adhering to safety procedures, requirements and regulations. Knowledgeable with tool / insert selection and utilizing the correct feeds and speeds for the materials being machined. Follows supervisors' direction to troubleshoot problem processes, interfacing with Manufacturing Engineers if necessary. Help train new individuals in basic CNC operations. Provide guidance on interpreting GD&T to lesser experienced operators. Any additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Three plus years CNC Milling / Turning experience in a job shop environment.
  • Ability to solve inspection problems, drawing from one's experience and develop new approaches.
  • Must be able to correctly interpret drawings dimensions and views; also, obtain help for more complex GD&T callouts on the drawing.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings and routings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must be able to read a micrometer, drop indictor and vernier caliper.
  • Able to utilize the optical comparator and profilometer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately orally, in writing or electronically.
  • Ability to communicate work goals, progress and changes as required.
  • Ability to apply interpersonal skills (empathy, negotiation, rapport, sensitivity), to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
