About The Position

The CNC Machinist II is responsible for setting up, operating, and proving out programs on CNC machining centers to manufacture precision hydraulic manifolds. This role requires safely running unproven Mazatrol programs, walking tools in, validating intersecting bores and critical features, and confirming first-piece acceptance prior to full production. The CNC Machinist II applies sound machining judgment to ensure parts meet dimensional, functional, and quality requirements in a high-mix manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to run unproven CNC programs.
  • Ability to independently perform setups, prove-outs, and first-piece validation.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency with precision inspection tools.
  • Solid understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials.
  • 3–8 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Strong experience with Mazak machines and Mazatrol.
  • Experience with tight-tolerance and surface finish requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality systems.
  • Understanding work order, blueprints, control plans, materials, specifications, drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, critical surfaces/edges, and machining parameters while interpreting geometric dimension and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Understanding work instructions ad zero/reference points
  • Understanding of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry
  • Positive and proactive attitude toward completing work orders
  • Willingness to learn and grow through Sun Hydraulics
  • Meeting commitments and obligations
  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Prolonged period of sitting
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds at times

Nice To Haves

  • Technical college degree preferred
  • 2+ years' experience using production machinery
  • Experience working with a Mazak Star/Integrex or Swiss Lathes a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 4-axis/5-axis Mazak CNC machining centers using the Mazatrol programming language.
  • Load, review, and safely execute new or unproven programs.
  • Walk tools in using dry runs, single-block, and reduce rapid/feed rates to verify tool paths and machine motion.
  • Perform controlled program prove-outs to validate machining processes.
  • Make tool offsets, wear adjustments, and minor Mazatrol edits as needed.
  • Validate first-piece hydraulic manifolds prior to full production.
  • Machine and inspect intersecting bores, cross-holes, ports, sealing surfaces, and critical features.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and hydraulic port callouts.
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work holding.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, bore gages, indicators, height gages, etc.)
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to tooling, setup, material, or program execution.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
  • Communicate issues, risks, and improvement opportunities with supervisors, engineering, and quality.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to cycle time, scrap reduction, and process stability.
  • Assist with training or technical support of CNC Machinist I personnel as needed.
