About The Position

CNC MACHINIST I Position Summary The CNC Machinist I is responsible for operating CNC machines and performing routine machining tasks in support of production and quality requirements. This role focuses on consistent machine operation, basic tooling changes, and in-process inspection while following established programs and work instructions. The CNC Machinist I works independently on assigned machines but escalates issues beyond routine operation to higher-level machinists or supervision. Operate CNC machines in accordance with established programs, work instructions, and safety procedures Load and unload parts and monitor machine cycles Change basic tooling as required Use gauges and precision measuring devices to perform in-process inspections Verify parts meet quality and dimensional requirements Recognize improper machine functioning and report findings to CNC Machinist II, CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or Supervisor Use pass down sheets and participate in face-to-face problem-solving meetings to communicate machine status, including:o Dates and times tooling was last changedo Maintenance or equipment issueso Machine performance or repeatability concernso Status of ongoing setups or jobs in progress Demonstrate working knowledge of shop floor systems used for production tracking, quality, and communication Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Comply with all company safety, quality, and production policies Assist supervisors, mechanical engineers, and planners with work organization to:o Support continuous improvement initiativeso Reduce setup time, cycle time, and machine downtime Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational needs Ways of Working, Experience, and Behaviors Ways of Working To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Works independently on assigned machines while strictly following established procedures Prioritizes safety, quality, and accuracy over speed Maintains awareness of machine condition and production status Communicates clearly and consistently through pass downs and direct discussion Accepts coaching and applies feedback to improve performance Escalates issues promptly rather than attempting unauthorized fixes Experience Minimum 1 year of CNC machining experience Hands-on experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges Experience reading and interpreting basic blueprints Familiarity with basic shop floor systems and production documentation Expected Behaviors Follows all safety rules, job safety analyses, and PPE requirements without exception Produces parts that meet quality, customer, and regulatory requirements Stops work and escalates concerns when safety or quality risks are identified Takes ownership of assigned machines and tasks Arrives on time, prepared, and ready to work Completes documentation accurately and consistently Communicates machine status clearly during pass downs and meetings Works respectfully and cooperatively with teammates and leads Responds professionally to feedback and direction Decision-Making Authority Follows documented processes, programs, and work instructions Authorized to perform routine machine operation and basic tooling changes Escalates setup, programming, tooling, or quality issues beyond routine operation to CNC Machinist II, CNC Machinist III, CNC Machinist Lead, or supervision Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum 1 year of CNC machining experience or successful completion of the internal CNC Machinist Trainee program Experience operating CNC machines following established programs Ability to adjust basic tooling and make routine tooling changes Ability to use basic measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges) Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints Basic math skills (decimals and fractions) Ability to communicate machine status and issues clearly using pass downs and face-to-face communication Physical Demands, Work Environment, Health & Safety Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk throughout the entire shift Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 30 pounds Frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions, including operating machine controls Ability to open and close machine doors repeatedly Ability to load parts into chucks or fixtures Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and grasp as required Visual acuity sufficient to read measuring instruments, machine displays, and blueprints Work Environment Manufacturing machine shop environment Regular exposure to machine noise, metal chips, coolants, and machining oils Exposure to temperature variations, fumes, and mists Required use of PPE, including:o Safety glasseso Steel-toe footwearo Hearing protection Safety and Environmental Participate in the development and promotion of the HSE cultureBe exemplary in terms of health, safety and the environment, in particular by : - Respecting and ensuring respect for the instructions and rules established in the field of health, safety and the environment (in particular the LISI golden rules) - Immediately correcting, whenever possible, or reporting to his or her superiors and/or the HSE department, any malfunction or risky situation in the fields of health, safety and environmental protection - Implementing preventive actions to reduce the environmental footprint and control health and safety risksParticipate, upon request, in analyses (of risks, incidents) and HSE working groups related to his/her professional scopeBe familiar with the main health and safety risks and the main environmental impacts relating to the scope of his/her workBe familiar with the site's HSE policy and objectivesTo be able to make proposals for improving working conditions and limiting environmental impact

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of CNC machining experience
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Experience reading and interpreting basic blueprints
  • Familiarity with basic shop floor systems and production documentation
