About The Position

The Maintenance / CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting CNC and fabrication equipment while supporting mold-making, prototyping, and production activities. This hybrid role combines precision machining, artistic fabrication, and advanced maintenance capabilities to ensure equipment reliability, product quality, and efficient operations. The position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles, tooling, setups, and materials.
  • Working knowledge of mold-making processes and diverse fabrication materials.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems, including PLCs and servo-driven equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and machine documentation.
  • High level of attention to detail with strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, technical certification, apprenticeship, or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in CNC machining, fabrication, and industrial maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex CNC and automated equipment required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Load CNC programs, materials, and tooling; perform machine setups and teardowns, including collets and chucks.
  • Monitor machine cycles, execute single-step programs, and replace or adjust tool inserts as needed.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and power tools, including CNC machines, grinders, lathes, mills, chop saws, miter saws, belt sanders, plasma cutters, welders, and other fabrication tools.
  • Perform deburring and finishing operations to ensure part quality and appearance.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, including proper chip handling and lubrication practices.
  • Perform quality inspections using precision measuring devices and verify parts against prints and specifications.
  • Communicate quality expectations clearly and effectively to ensure consistent output.
  • Create, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for machining, fabrication, and maintenance activities.
  • Apply knowledge of mold-making techniques and materials, including urethane, plastics, metals, wood, clay, foam, glass, and stone.
  • Utilize artistic talent, creative problem-solving, and sculpting ability to support custom fabrication, prototyping, and mold development.
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PMs) on mechanical and electrical systems to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose and repair complex equipment issues involving PLCs, HMIs, servo motors, amplifiers, and sensors.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve unique equipment failures across various machine types, including 5-axis CNC machines and lathes.
  • Replace faulty components and maintain all equipment in optimal operating condition.
