About the position

The CNC Lathe Setup/Operator is responsible for developing programs to control the machining or processing of metal or plastic parts using automatic machine tools. This role involves setting up and operating various cutting or forming machine tools, including lathes and robots, to ensure efficient and accurate production processes.

Responsibilities

• Program CNC lathes using CAM software (such as Mastercam) to generate toolpaths and optimize machining processes.
• Set up and configure CNC lathes, including loading raw materials, installing cutting tools, and calibrating machine settings.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures for each job, considering factors such as material type, geometry, and surface finish requirements.
• Monitor machining operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve programming, tooling, and machining issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks on CNC equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and tool replacement.
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to optimize machining processes and improve product quality.
• Maintain organized documentation of programming parameters, tooling specifications, and production records.
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience programming and operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam) for generating toolpaths and G-code programming.
• Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tool selection, and CNC lathe operations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with various types of cutting or forming machine tools.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
