The CNC Lathe Operator II is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC turning equipment—specifically HAAS SL‑10, SL‑20, or similar lathes—to produce precision‑machined components. This role ensures consistent quality, accurate documentation, and safe, efficient production in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The operator supports daily machining operations, equipment performance, and continuous improvement activities while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with HAAS CNC control systems and turning operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining materials.
  • Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a production environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with HAAS SL‑10 and/or SL‑20 turning centers.
  • Experience with live tooling, bar feeders, or multi‑axis turning.
  • Experience in job‑shop or production machining environments.
  • Forklift certification (if applicable).
  • Technical coursework or training in machining, manufacturing technology, or mechanical processes.
  • Experience working in ISO‑certified or regulated manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes including HAAS SL‑10, SL‑20, or comparable models.
  • Load raw materials, monitor machining operations, and adjust offsets or parameters to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
  • Select, install, and verify tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices.
  • Perform first article inspections and in‑process checks using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, etc.).
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance; identify mechanical or performance issues and escalate as needed to minimize downtime.
  • Execute machining processes according to established procedures and work instructions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including production records, inspection data, and equipment logs.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and team members to support process improvements and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Provide guidance to entry‑level operators on safe machine operation and standard procedures.
