We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Engineer Technician (Prototyping & Tooling Desing) with strong expertise in prototyping, tooling design, and precision machining. This role blends hands-on CNC machine operation with creative problem-solving in tooling development, fixturing, and rapid iteration. You will work closely with engineering teams to translate early-stage concepts into high-quality prototype parts and production-ready tooling solutions. This is an ideal role for a machinist who enjoys building unique parts, improving designs, and collaborating directly with engineers and manufacturing teams. This is an onsite position.

  • CNC Machining & Prototyping Program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, wire EDM to produce precision prototype components.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and design intent to create one-off or low-volume parts.
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies to optimize quality and efficiency.
  • Perform quick-turn machining on evolving designs requiring adaptability and engineering collaboration.
  • Tooling & Fixturing Design Design and manufacture custom tooling , fixtures , jigs , and work holding solutions to support both prototype and limited production needs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and design engineers to develop and refine tooling concepts.
  • Implement improvements to tooling ergonomics, repeatability, accuracy, and safety.
  • CAD/CAM & Programming Create and edit CNC programs using CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360, Mastercam, NX, or similar).
  • Import and manipulate 3D CAD files to generate toolpaths.
  • Verify toolpaths using simulation to prevent collisions and ensure manufacturability.
  • Quality & Documentation Perform in-process inspection and final part verification using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, or other precision tools.
  • Maintain documentation for prototype runs, tooling revisions, and machining parameters.
  • Support DFM (Design for Manufacturability) feedback for engineering teams.
  • Shop Support & Continuous Improvement Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Monitor machine condition and coordinate maintenance as needed.
  • Recommend process improvements, equipment upgrades, and tooling enhancements.
  • Contribute to standardizing prototyping workflows and machining best practices.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Machine Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, or a related technical field required.
  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience (mills, lathes, or 5-axis preferred) after completing your degree.
  • Strong background in prototype machining and quick-turn environments.
  • Experience designing and machining custom tools, fixtures, and workholding.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for toolpath creation.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of machining materials (aluminum, steels, plastics, etc.).
  • HAAS or FANUC CNC certifications would be good as well but preferred.
  • Experience supporting R&D or new product development teams.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with metrology tools and/or CMM inspection.
  • Welding, fabrication, or manual machine experience.
  • Ability to collaborate directly with mechanical engineers on manufacturability improvements.
