The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to residents in long-term care, providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). This role involves delivering age-appropriate care according to the care plan and adhering to infection prevention and control policies, including Personal Protective Equipment use. The NA assists with basic health care needs, daily living activities, resident transfers, repositioning, and exercises. They also manage tasks related to food preparation and dining, assist with meals, and provide water and supplements. The NA may aid providers and nursing staff with procedures, document resident interactions and outcomes, and communicate changes in resident condition to the charge nurse. Additional duties include collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens, gathering vital signs, providing housekeeping and laundry services, and assisting with wellness and recreational programs. Participation in departmental/organization committees and task forces may also be required.
