About The Position

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission through discharge. Definition A Nursing Assistant is a licensed paraprofessional trained to provide personal care, basic nursing support, and related healthcare assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm and who receive services from healthcare facilities or agencies licensed by the state. The Nursing Assistant must hold an active license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Requirements

  • Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant license
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide care across the lifespan, with consideration of aging processes, developmental stages, and cultural patterns

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of Nursing Assistant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • The Nursing Assistant collaborates with the Registered Nurse to organize work and set priorities.
  • Perform personal care skills
  • Perform basic Nursing Assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health Professional Licensing and Facility Regulation
  • Assist with rehabilitation skills, including activities of daily living and ambulation as appropriate
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions or situations to the RN, manager, or supervisor; reporting equipment in need of repair and removing equipment from service
  • Recognize, observe, and report changes in patient condition and all pertinent signs and symptoms to the Registered Nurse
  • Adhere to safety standards, quality assurance practices, and infection control procedures in accordance with hospital and departmental policies
  • Accurately document care and observations in the electronic health record (EHR), patient care flowsheets, and clinical documentation systems
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform responsibilities during emergency or code situations
  • May function as a patient observer
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
