About The Position

The CNA - Observation Unit position at Advocate Health involves providing essential care and support to patients in the observation unit. The role requires a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality care, and effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals. The position is full-time, requiring 36 hours per week, with rotating weekends and holidays, and shifts from approximately 7 am to 7 pm. The CNA will be responsible for various tasks including patient care, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
  • Basic math calculation skills.
  • CPR (Heart Saver) certified within 6 months of employment.
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Bi-lingual skills desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Introduce self and role to patient at start of shift.
  • Provide fresh pitcher of water (if not NPO).
  • Place call light and phone in reach of the patient.
  • Listen to patients and solicit information about their needs.
  • Involve patients in decisions about their care.
  • Answer call lights and assist patients with elimination needs.
  • Provide morning or evening care including bed baths, oral care, and hair care.
  • Straighten patient's room and change bed linens.
  • Transport, transfer, lift, and position patients as directed.
  • Ambulate non-bedridden patients four times daily.
  • Feed patients as needed and collect specimens for lab transport.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals positively.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints.
  • Maintain a clean, safe unit environment.
  • Respond to call lights and communicate patient requests to RN.
  • Document patient information on appropriate forms.
  • Act as patient/family advocate by providing comfort and assistance.
  • Participate in efforts to monitor and improve departmental CQI indicators.
