About The Position

Caregivers provide personal services which meet the existing needs and/or preferences of each resident as outlined in each resident’s service plan. Personal services fall into one of four categories: companion care, light housekeeping, daily living activities, and personal care. Personal Services include but are not limited to, assisting with or performing household tasks.

Requirements

• Long-term care experience
• First aid certification
• Alzheimer's care knowledge
• Ability to work with people with developmental disabilities
• Proficiency in ADLs and memory care
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Valid CNA/HHA in the state of Indiana
• Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality while following appropriate attendance procedures
• Understand and follow the Service Plan
• Create, maintain, and promote a positive atmosphere
• Observe residents carefully, noting and reporting any changes in condition or any other important information to the supervisor
• Follow the established policies and procedures of Story Cottage Living
• Perform housekeeping and laundry procedures as assigned
• Follow all cleaning and laundry procedures and instructions in the use of housekeeping and laundry equipment and products
• Perform meal preparation procedures as assigned
• Provide quality care for all residents per Story Cottage Living standards
• Encourage the resident to be active and participate in daily living activities
• Maintain a safe environment at all times, keeping hallways and walking areas free of clutter and keeping home lights on as needed for client safety as the client allows
• Assist in making residents' beds, mopping floors, cleaning toilets, and showers, serving meals, laundering clothes, cleaning service areas, and performing other tasks as directed
• Attend staff training as required
• Instill confidence in the resident by performing duties in a competent and caring manner
• Maintain confidentiality of all residents and company information
• Must stay current on all testing and requirements related to the company’s licensing
• Performs assigned tasks in accordance with acceptable standards of practice as defined by state regulations
• Perform other duties that may be assigned
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
• Dependable transportation
• Ability to deal tactfully, show patience, maintain a cheerful disposition, show enthusiasm with residents, family members, visitors, outside agencies, and other employees, and demonstrate a willingness to handle difficult individuals, situations, etc.
• Exhibit understanding and supportiveness of the mission, goals, and customer service philosophy of Story Cottage Living
• Must maintain a neat appearance and follow Story Cottage Living’s dress code
• Must have patience, tact, and a positive attitude, as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations and people
