About The Position

The primary purpose of the Nurse Aide Instructor is to instruct students according to the curriculum designed to assist students to build knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide quality care and services for residents and to be prepared for the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide examination. Identify skills gaps and assess additional training needs for students. Assist students in registering for the Nurse Aide examination and preparing to take the examination. Instructor will be responsible to work with and communicate effectively with students with a variety of educational needs and experiences. I hereby accept the position of Nurse Aide Instructor and agree to perform the identified essential functions in a safe manner and in accordance with the facility’s established procedures. I understand that as a result of my employment, I may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals and that the facility will provide me instructions on how to prevent and control such exposures. I further understand that I may be exposed to the Hepatitis B Virus and that the facility will make available to me, free of charge, the Hepatitis B Vaccination. I further understand that my employment is at-will, and thereby understand that my employment may be terminated at-will either by the facility or myself, and that such termination can be made without notice.

Requirements

  • The instructor must attend the seminar approved by the Teaching the Educator through Pennsylvania State University within 1 month of being hired.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited practical nurse or registered nurse training program.
  • Two (2) years relevant experience, One (1) year long-term care experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of position to assist students during clinical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population

  • Must be able to work independently and to evaluate and direct the work of others

Responsibilities

  • Prepare course syllabus including course explanation, expectations and grading procedures.
  • Instruct students utilizing the course curriculum as outlined. Coordinate with other expert instructors during curriculum as needed and appropriate.
  • Build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to be able to perform the duties of a Nurse Aide and to achieve certification.
  • Maintain accurate records for all students, including but not limited to attendance records, grades, evaluations, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
  • Evaluate and document students’ progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
  • Provide a stimulating environment that encourages students’ participation, interpersonal skill development and concepts of good resident care.
  • Report any additional program needs to the Staff Development Infection Control Director
  • Communicate effectively with all students being aware of each student’s unique needs.
  • Continuously assess students’ training and skills needs. Create additional training as needed for students to fill in any skills gaps to ensure all students complete course successfully.
  • Evaluate students, giving timely and accurate feedback to student and facility which include but not limited to clinical ability, technical assessments, work personality and any deficiencies.
  • Prepare the students for hands-on skills necessary to perform proper resident care as well as to prepare for the Nurse Aide examination.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, complaints/concerns and grievances made by the residents to the Team Leader/RN Supervisor.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of property.
  • Instruct in a manner that enables all students to participant and learn in a safe environment.
  • Enable the students to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required for safe and efficient resident care.
  • Communicate effectively with students and all those affiliated with the course, including staff in clinical training facilities and expert instructors.
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies and procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance by consistently complying with the facility’s code of conduct and appearance and hygiene policy.
  • Understand and explain facility emergency procedures to students and supervise students during situations
