Job Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Hospice House provides direct patient care, assisting with daily living activities, vital signs, mobility, meals, and hygiene. CNAs also provide emotional support to patients and families, maintain a safe and clean environment, and ensure that care is documented accurately and communicated effectively within the care team.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to read, write, and carry out directions in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, families, and care teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous CNA experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, hospice, or home health setting.
  • Completion of a 40-hour training program meeting state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and hygiene to patients in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist patients with safe ambulation, transfers, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) exercises.
  • Prepare and serve meals while ensuring safe feeding techniques.
  • Take and record vital signs; observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment through housekeeping and equipment care.
  • Educate and guide family/caregivers on patient care, including activities of daily living (ADLs) and infection prevention.
  • Document care provided and communicate effectively with the nurse, manager, and interdisciplinary team (IDT).
  • Provide supportive care to patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Safely operate patient equipment, including Hoyer lifts.
  • Complete end-of-shift responsibilities such as laundry, emptying trash, reporting intake and output (I&O), and giving a thorough shift report.
