About The Position

The CNA Hospice Aide plays a vital role in providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals receiving end-of-life services in hospice settings. This position focuses on supporting patients' comfort, dignity, and quality of life by assisting with daily living activities and monitoring their physical and emotional needs. The aide works closely with interdisciplinary hospice teams, including nurses, social workers, and chaplains, to ensure holistic care tailored to each patient's unique situation. Through attentive observation and communication, the CNA Hospice Aide helps identify changes in patient conditions and promptly reports them to the clinical team. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to creating a supportive environment that respects patients' wishes and supports their families during challenging times.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of employment.
  • Completion of a state-approved CNA training program with demonstrated competency in basic nursing skills.
  • Basic knowledge of hospice care principles and end-of-life patient needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Physical ability to perform patient care tasks including lifting, transferring, and prolonged standing or walking.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in hospice, palliative care, or a similar healthcare setting.
  • Additional training or certification in hospice or palliative care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to provide empathetic emotional support.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist hospice patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Monitor and document patients’ physical and emotional conditions, reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Provide comfort measures including repositioning, skin care, and assistance with feeding as directed by the care plan.
  • Offer emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, fostering a compassionate and respectful atmosphere.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in patient living areas, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with hospice team members to implement individualized care plans and participate in care team meetings as needed.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks related to patient care areas to promote a comfortable setting.
