This is a part-time, per diem Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position for the Medical Surgical Cardiac Unit at Aurora St. Lukes South Shore, requiring holiday and weekend commitment. The role involves assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) with comprehensive daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, ambulation with therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring. Key responsibilities also include measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). CNAs perform purposeful rounding, communicate patient needs to RNs, and assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes. They are responsible for ensuring patient call lights are accessible, collecting specimens for point-of-care testing, maintaining nursing area stock, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transport duties. The role also includes tasks related to patient nutrition and skin integrity, ensuring proper use of special patient supplies, and potentially removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and bladder scans under RN direction. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic procedures, is mandatory. The CNA must demonstrate knowledge and skills for providing age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles across the lifespan to meet diverse patient needs.
