About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position in the Medical Surgical Oncology Unit at Advocate Health involves providing essential care to patients during the weekend shift. The role requires assisting registered nurses (RNs) with daily patient care tasks, including bathing, feeding, and ambulation. The CNA will also be responsible for measuring and documenting vital signs, participating in patient admissions and discharges, and maintaining a clean and organized nursing area. The position requires effective communication with patients and families, as well as adherence to infection prevention policies.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs, I & O, daily weights, and other patient data as requested.
  • Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family.
  • Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing.
  • Completes various errands including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties.
  • Maintains skin integrity and ensures special patient supplies are provided.
  • Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention.
