About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position in the ICU at Advocate Health involves providing essential support to registered nurses (RNs) in the daily care of patients. This role requires assisting with various patient care tasks, documenting vital signs, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients. The position is full-time, requiring 32 hours per week, specifically during the night shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Monday through Thursday. The CNA will also participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and must maintain a high standard of care and communication with both patients and healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days.
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry.
  • Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED), or High School Graduate.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation.
  • Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested.
  • Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN.
  • Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN.
  • Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and performs point-of-care testing as indicated.
  • Completes various errands as directed including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling.
  • Maintains skin integrity and ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained.
  • Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention.
