About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant assists Physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. This role involves providing direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of a Licensed Nurse. Key tasks include collecting specimens, running lab tests, performing EKGs, drug screen collection, and breath alcohol tests, as well as performing assigned clerical duties. The CNA participates in unit activities aimed at enhancing and promoting quality patient care outcomes, aligning with the mission, vision, and values of Patient Care Services of Phoebe Putney Health System. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

  • Vocational / Technical Degree in Medical Field
  • 1+ year Patient Care Experience in a health care setting

Responsibilities

  • Assist Physicians and nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.
  • Collect specimens.
  • Run lab tests.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Perform drug screen collection.
  • Perform breath alcohol tests.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.

  • Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately document designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensure that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
  • Use correct terminology.
  • Conform to required style and format.
  • Demonstrate technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
  • Understand equipment operation.
  • Maintain equipment in working order.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Use technology to increase productivity.

  • Treat patients and families with compassion and implement plan of care.
  • Base care decisions on plan of care.
  • Monitor and document patient response.
  • Establish rapport with clients.
  • Adapt communication style, listen and respond to patient needs.

  • Respect patients confidentiality and privacy.
  • Support social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Manage difficult or emotional patient situations.
  • Develop expected outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care.
  • Involve patient/family and other disciplines to determine expected outcomes.
  • Modify expected outcomes based on changes in the assessment of the patient.
  • Include the patient and others involved in the care in the evaluation process.
  • Evaluate the plan in relation to patient responses and expected outcomes.
  • Document the results of the evaluation.
  • Adhere to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as required and complete all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Demonstrate competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
  • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
