About The Position

As a member of the logistics group, the CMV Operations and Training Manager will be responsible for utilizing driver performance reviews, skill gap analyses, feedback, industry research and observation to create and maintain and improve CMV standard operating procedures. Additionally, this individual will create, maintain and improve effective training processes, metrics, evaluation/mentorship and continuous quality improvement for CMV programs and processes to enhance driver performance, foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement that aligns with the organization’s strategic objectives.

  • Bachelor’s degree, or closely related equivalent
  • Experience as CDL-A driver (Current CDL-A preferred)
  • Experience as a Certified Driver Trailer preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience in transportation industry required
  • Knowledge of LTL/TL pricing formats
  • Experience using a TMS system required
  • TMC/PCS knowledge a plus
  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrix environment
  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • JDE/Cognos/Tableau proficiency a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and related Office applications
  • Effectively communicate with customers, both external and internal

Responsibilities

  • Creating and Improving Driver Standard Operating Procedures: Use performance reviews, skills gap analyses, team member feedback, industry research, and observations to identify driver standard operating procedures and driver training needs
  • Driver Onboarding: Work with H.R. facility and logistics department leadership to facilitate, and update driver onboarding process.
  • Developing Training Programs: Design comprehensive training programs that are up to date, relevant and address the needs of the driver and the organization. This includes identifying skill gaps and setting training objectives
  • Implementing Training Initiatives: Coordinating with logistics and plant operations, to conduct training programs while ensuring participants and driver trainers have the resources needed.
  • Evaluating Training Effectiveness: Continuously assess the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and performance metrics.
  • Leading Training Teams: Directly and indirectly lead driver trainers, facilitators, and any external consultants setting clear goals.
  • Staying Current with Industry Trends: Research, understand, create training programs for the latest developments in Commercial Motor Vehicle FMCSR Rules, Regulations, processes and driver development, including new technologies, e-learning, methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure that all training programs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and organizational policies, facility and departmental processes.
  • Continuous Training: Implement coaching sessions, mentorship programs, and continuous training programs to establish a culture of continuous learning
  • Compliance to Federal and State Regulatory agencies: Ensures compliance with legal and procedural obligations by adhering to the provisions outlined in the ADA, FMCSR, and other relevant regulations. Enforces all Substance Abuse Policy regulations and policies to uphold safety and regulatory standard
  • Teamwork: Maintains cooperative relationship with coworkers and management by communicating necessary information, responding to requests, building rapport; and participating in problem- solving methods.
  • Training Tools: Ensure the Driver Trainers have all necessary resources to successfully onboard and train leading to competent and capable drivers who meet organization safety and service standards
  • Optimized Operational Efficiency: Evaluate drivers and their equipment in the field, observing and evaluating their performance to identify areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions, and providing mentoring support, leading to increased operational efficiency and service quality.
  • Safety: Work closely with CPNA EH&S Managers to ensure all driver processes are performed safely. Perform process reviews in the field to ensure driver compliance to process and look for improvements to drive a safe working environment.
  • Meetings: Continuously meet with coworkers and facility leaders to provide status of process improvement, and driver training while understanding where operational changes may require updates to SOPs and training processes.
  • Metrics: Responsible for key metrics that drive process improvement and compliance with a safety focus.
