Overview The Supervisor functions as the unit-based clinical shift leader with responsibility for staff direction, patient safety, efficient resource utilization, mentoring of unit staff, especially recent hires, shift assignments and overall quality of care delivered. This role actively coordinates and participates in PI activities, collects data to assess employee performance and participates in staff evaluation process. The Supervisor must be available to work weekends and holidays based on unit needs. Responsibilities The Supervisor is responsible for the following leadership and management duties: Coordinates unit activities and provides leadership for unit staffing and patient assignments and responds to and provides leadership during crisis and emergency situations. Promotes efficient patient flow including timely discharges and admissions. Encourages a safe environment by promoting adherence to established protocols, policies and procedures. Serves as clinical resource and subject matter expert for staff. Assists staff with alarm management by intervening with nursing units and escalating as needed. Daily management of monitors, verifying patients with active orders are being monitored. On-going validation of staff knowledge of EKG rhythms. Provides just in time feedback with appropriate accountability as needed. Assists with data collection as directed. Serve as resource to provide on-going unit education. Maintains records related to orientation in-service and unit competency assessments. Displays sound judgment and critical thinking skills in areas of decision-making and problem-solving Maintains effective interdepartmental relationships by working with other unit leaders and departments to define and work toward common goals. Ensures compliance with various quality standards and regulatory agency requirements. Facilitates bidirectional communication to ensure timely exchange of information to all stakeholders. Treats all people (customers and employees) fairly and with respect. Creates an environment that supports employee recruitment and retention. May take unit management call as directed. Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned.
