About the position
The Certified Medical Technician (CMT) plays a crucial role in supporting the Registered Nurse (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in delivering patient care within the Emergency Department. This position involves assisting with various non-nursing tasks, routine patient care, and emergency situations, ensuring a high standard of care and effective communication within the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Assist the RN/LPN with non-nursing tasks such as crash cart checks and quality control checks.
- Retrieve equipment and supplies, keep the department clean, and stock supplies.
- Assist with routine patient care and treatment as delegated by the RN/LPN under their supervision.
- Monitor and document vital signs, intake/output, and pain levels.
- Administer enemas, apply hot/cold packs, and perform glucoscans.
- Transport and ambulate patients, answer call lights, and clean equipment.
- Assist in pre/post-operative care and admission/discharge activities.
- Communicate pertinent information during shift-to-shift and transfer reports.
- Respond to emergency situations and assist in ERT calls.
- Perform wound care, splinting, and assist with procedures in the Emergency Department.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED and completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program.
- Active licensure in the State of Kentucky or National Registry as an EMT-B.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification within 90 days of start.
