About The Position

CMT Technical Services is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to support estimating efforts for construction materials testing (CMT) and special inspection services across Utah. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, assisting with proposal development, and collaborating with internal teams to support project pursuits. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of estimating experience, preferably in construction services, CMT, or inspection fields
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, plans, and specifications
  • Familiarity with public bid processes and private sector proposals
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with estimating or proposal software preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Utah DOT (UDOT), municipal, or public works projects
  • Familiarity with construction materials testing (CMT), geotechnical, and special inspection scopes
  • Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings
  • Knowledge of Utah construction market conditions
  • Experience supporting both public and private sector bids
  • Certifications related to construction estimating or project management (e.g., AACE, PMP – a plus)
  • Industry-related certifications in CMT or special inspections (a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction materials testing and special inspection services
  • Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop scopes and pricing
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of proposals, bids, and fee schedules for public and private clients
  • Ensure estimates align with client requirements, project specifications, and contractual obligations
  • Track and incorporate addenda, clarifications, and scope changes into estimates
  • Maintain organized documentation of estimates, assumptions, and supporting data
  • Collaborate with project managers, field staff, and operations teams to gather pricing inputs and project requirements
  • Support scope development and budgeting for upcoming and active projects
  • Assist with contract documentation and project handoff upon award
  • Maintain and update pricing databases, unit rates, and estimating tools
  • Stay informed on local construction market conditions, labor trends, and material pricing
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and tools
  • Track bid outcomes and maintain historical cost data
