About The Position

Milton Manufacturing is seeking a highly skilled CMM Technician with strong experience operating portable articulated scanning arms such as the FARO Arm, Hexagon Absolute Arm, or similar. In this role, you’ll perform advanced dimensional inspections, create measurement programs in PolyWorks, and generate high-quality scan data and reports to support the Quality Department. You’ll work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve dimensional challenges, support PPAP/APQP activities, and ensure precision across complex manufactured components in a fast-paced environment. If you’re passionate about metrology, GD&T, and high‑accuracy measurement systems—and enjoy hands-on work with cutting-edge scanning technology—this role puts you at the center of quality excellence.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in PolyWorks Inspector, including program creation, macros, mesh processing, and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009 or 2018)
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty, calibration principles, and gage R&R
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities for root cause identification
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for reporting and cross‑functional work
  • Ability to manage multiple inspection priorities with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Team-oriented mindset with continuous improvement focus
  • Minimum 3 years operating portable articulated scanning arms (FARO, Hexagon, or similar)
  • Experience generating mesh-based inspection data and performing CAD-to-part comparisons
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and specifications
  • High school diploma or GED required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in metrology, quality, or related field preferred
  • Experience with PolyWorks Modeler and advanced mesh workflows
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Prior PPAP, APQP, and FAIR/ISIR documentation experience in automotive or defense industries
  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or similar credential preferred
  • Experience with additional metrology software (PC-DMIS, Geomagic, Verisurf) a plus
  • Basic CAD literacy (SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) for working with 3D models

Responsibilities

  • Operate portable articulated scanning arms (FARO, Hexagon, or equivalent) to perform first article, in‑process, and final inspections
  • Develop, write, and optimize PolyWorks Inspector programs for repeatable scanning and probing routines
  • Generate high-quality mesh images, perform mesh‑to‑CAD comparisons, and create detailed color deviation maps
  • Produce accurate measurement reports including balloon drawings, dimensional results, and GD&T verification
  • Interpret complex customer engineering drawings and GD&T callouts per ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve dimensional nonconformances
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure scanning systems remain in proper working condition
  • Support PPAP, APQP, and ISIR documentation with required dimensional data packages
  • Assist in developing inspection plans, control plans, and standard work instructions
  • Perform fixture and part alignment using best‑fit, RPS, and datum-based alignment methods
  • Continuously improve scanning efficiency, measurement processes, and reporting quality in alignment with lean manufacturing goals
