About The Position

The CMM Programmer develops coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs, performs first piece and in process inspection of parts, and analyzes inspection data for compliance. Develops and maintains CMM work instructions, documentation of inspection results. Interprets blueprints and utilizes precision measuring equipment. Works independently with minimal supervision. May assist in the training of other personnel.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent is required
  • Minimum 5 years of CMM programming experience required.
  • Knowledge of appropriate inspection techniques and equipment usage
  • Advanced Blueprint reading skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T
  • Computer skills to include Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Performs first piece, in process, and final inspection for quality, appearance, and performance of complex parts and assemblies.
  • Performs detail and assembly level First Article Inspection Reports for first time build and repeat parts or part families.
  • Plans inspection techniques for first time builds. May be required to devise unusual measuring or gaging set-ups.
  • Measures the layout and physical dimensions of machined parts, castings, jigs, fixtures, and templates such as: length, height, inside diameter, outside diameter, concentricity, angle, arc, and radii. This is done using combinations of aids and precision measuring instruments for a variety of standard or custom parts or materials that are produced in house or received from vendors.
  • Checks color, finish, dimensions, hardness, density, or other measurable or observable characteristics of materials or parts.
  • May verify correct gage usage of machinists during In Process inspection.
  • Verifies final inspection, to include sampling plans are complete prior to release of parts to shipping.
  • Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments and devices to include manual and automated CMM’s, and Vision systems.
  • Validate measurement strategy, nominal, tolerances, and inspection results.
  • Review findings with machinist and/or Quality Manager
  • Provide technical and application support for basic and advanced operators.
  • Load and prove existing offline CNC Inspection Programs
  • Set up work piece using pre-approved set up information within CNC inspection program, execute CNC inspection program, and perform necessary manual inspections.
  • Ability to boot up and/or shut down CMM hardware and software.
  • Responsible for CMM preventive maintenance
  • Validate Required Stylus Systems
  • Develop basic inspection programs in accordance with customer requirements and/or ASME Y14.5-2009 GD&T standards and guidelines.
  • Responsible to adhere to the company Quality Policy, and to understand and follow all applicable Quality Work Instructions and Procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
