The CMM Programmer (Tool & Die) at SpaceX is responsible for ensuring the precision and quality of manufactured components through comprehensive CMM programming and inspection processes. This role involves collaboration with machinists, engineering teams, and management to enhance accuracy and first article success rates in the Bastrop machining area.

  • Perform precision inspection (CMM or surface plate) verification on mechanical parts, components, assemblies and materials.
  • Conduct first article parts, in-process and final inspection on assemblies, and materials for workmanship and conformance to specifications/drawings.
  • Understand GD&T requirements as applied to engineering drawings and notes.
  • Select and utilize standard gauges to ensure quality.
  • Inspect feature tolerances by selecting the tool with the required accuracy.
  • Work in a cross-functional environment utilizing CMM programming software with bridge style machines up to possible 5-axis head motion.
  • Create, maintain, verify, retain, sort and organize all programs created to ensure they are readily available and saved to the current revision.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continuously improve processes and specifications governing precision inspection.
  • Assist engineering with making part inspection plans.
  • Identify engineering, design, GD&T issues and errors creating ambiguity in the manufacturing and inspection process.
  • Make suggestions on drawing changes to improve manufacturability.
  • Assist engineering and management in researching and procuring tools.
  • Create and administer training for team members.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of CMM programming experience
  • CMM experience, including programming on multi-sensing CMMs (vision, laser, touch probe, etc.)
  • Primary programming language is PC-DMIS, MODUS, or CALYPSO
  • Ability to read and understand GD&T and all drawing criteria, notes and tolerances
  • Ability to assist with designing/developing quality gauging to improve efficiencies
  • Understanding of ISO 9001
  • Experience with set-up of CMM or Romer Arm
