About The Position

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a CMM Programmer-Operator. This position is onsite at our San Diego, CA (92154) location. This position will support our Aircraft segment. Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our San Diego- Aircraft facility and reports to the Quality Manager. Position Summary: Perform inspections, tests, and reviews of materials, processes, and products to ensure compliance with established requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating CMS equipment (Faro, Romer, or Laser Tracker).
  • At least 3 years of Verisurf
  • Expertise with standard measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of machine shop math and trigonometry.
  • Ability to perform first article, in-process, and final inspections on large precision-machined parts.
  • Experience setting up and performing open surface plate inspections.
  • Ability to make sound judgments when checking machine setups.
  • Proficient in interpreting geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, surface plate work, and inspection/layout work.
  • US. Person under 22 CFR 120 (due to ITAR Restrictions)

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to create AS9102 and balloon requirements using DISCUS software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections of mechanical, metal, and composite materials, parts, and assemblies using precision measuring equipment (e.g., Romer, FARO, Laser Tracker).
  • Experience with articulating arm or CMM inspection using Verisurf is required.
  • Use hand measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, PCM, and mylars.
  • Complete First Article Inspection (FAI) and generate documentation per AS9102 (Forms 1, 2, and 3).
  • Ability to create AS9102 and balloon requirements using DISCUS software is a plus.
  • Perform final inspections, review customer requirements, and prepare documentation packages.
  • Monitor production processes and support in-process inspection requirements.
  • Generate accurate, clear, and concise descriptions of inspection results, change requests, and nonconforming conditions.
  • Interpret mechanical/composite models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of GD&T callouts is required.
  • Perform internal audits and participate in cross-functional improvement teams.
