About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a CMM Programmer III to join their team. This role involves producing inspections of machined and fabricated parts by programming, setting up, and operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM). The CMM Programmer will maintain quality and safety standards, keep records, and maintain equipment and supplies. The position is part of a legacy of commitment that spans 150 years, supporting the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and Canadian Coast Guard.

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma; Engineering or Technical Bachelor of Science preferred.
  • At least 8 years of related manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with PC-DMIS (CAM2 a plus).
  • CAD/Solidworks preferred.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments (digital AND dial/analog - micrometers, calipers) test sets, and gauging equipment (FARO Arm and Tracker a plus).
  • Ability to read customer drawings and specifications, including GD&T.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerance, etc.
  • Ability to operate Windows based computers and working knowledge of typical office programs – i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CMM to effectively measure products to meet customer specifications.
  • Program and operate other equipment to effectively measure products to meet customer specifications (Training provided as needed).
  • Prepare reports to describe inspection results and prepare documents.
  • Ensure that the CMM is kept clean, and calibration verified.
  • Develop CMM programs using various software.
  • Utilize precision measurement tools as needed for quality checks.
  • Administer and/or edit previously created CMM programs to ensure that the part inspection programs are consistent with part number and revision level.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot machine set-ups and inspections paths.
  • Communicate with Quality Manager and/or plant supervision noted deviations of tolerance and quality.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures as applicable to position.
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping procedures.
  • Understand and follow health, safety, security, and environmental practices.
  • Other duties as required.
