About the position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Bluegrass Community Health Center plays a vital role in providing compassionate care to patients under the supervision of licensed medical personnel. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including administrative duties, patient interaction, and ensuring a safe and efficient clinic environment. The CMA is expected to maintain high standards of customer service and participate actively in the clinic's operations, contributing to a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and guests.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient personal, financial, and health records.
  • Ensure patients are identified with two forms of identification at each visit and before all procedures.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to messages per policy.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and guests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assess and report potential environmental and patient safety risks.
  • Attend outreach events or health fairs as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Attend assigned staff meetings, clinic committee meetings, and training as requested by the supervisor.
  • Assume assigned role within the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team.
  • Act as preceptor and train new staff as clinical assistants.
  • Demonstrate expertise in HIPAA laws and direct other staff on appropriate contact with patients.
  • Demonstrate expertise in CLIA Waived labs, controls, and documentation.
  • Participate in pre-visit planning and post-visit follow-up care.
  • Monitor interruptions in clinic flow and communicate delays to patients.
  • Utilize interpreters as needed to ensure effective communication.
  • Keep patient care rooms and bathrooms clean and well stocked.
  • Perform and document quality control checks on lab tests and equipment.
  • Ensure lab orders are processed correctly and per policy.
  • Sterilize instruments as indicated and manage needle disposal.
  • Collect initial patient health data and room patients.
  • Follow orders given by licensed medical personnel consistent with team role and competency level.
  • Provide established standardized education as appropriate.
  • Report and document any concerns or adverse reactions to licensed medical personnel.
  • Review visit summary and provide clarification/education as appropriate.
  • Escort patients to check-out at the end of their visit.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency.
  • Experience with HIPAA regulations.
  • Laboratory experience.
